Company History

Spectrum Water Coolers, Inc. was founded in 1989 in Bethesda, MD, as the first company in the U.S. to sell and service filtered, bottle-less drinking water coolers to offices and workplaces. Jeff Doughty, Spectrum’s founder, recognized the opportunity to replace the traditional 5-gallon bottled water solution with a point-of-use filtered cooler solution that has numerous advantages over bottled water. Since its establishment, the company has experienced significant growth locally and nationally, and has also become one of the only filtered water cooler companies with the ability to sell, install, and service clients on a nationwide basis.

Until 1995 Spectrum focused solely on sales to offices and workplaces in the Washington DC, Baltimore, and Northern Virginia areas. At the request of several large clients, Spectrum began to grow and service client locations throughout the U.S.; currently, it services clients in 46 states.  Many companies have identified Spectrum as the nationwide leader in filtered drinking water coolers and have forged partnerships to allow Spectrum to supply their clients with industry leading self-sanitizing UV coolers and exemplary service.
